Letter: MLAs who are against tougher restrictions have no plan for consequences

The group of UCP MLAs pushing to end lockdowns are exacerbating what is rapidly becoming a critical situation. Their total lack of rational thought is extremely frightening.

They are upset that the clear path forward has become anything but.

I don’t think that any of us in our wildest dreams could have foretold what has unfolded.

The variants are something that we did not see coming either.

Premier Jason Kenney had no choice but to enact the most recent restrictions. I would argue that a more rigorous lockdown would have been more appropriate but at least Kenney acknowledged that the situation is not business as usual. Unlike the group of more than a dozen MLAs.

Our elected officials are making it known that they strongly disagree with the health restrictions requested by our health-care workers.

Then we have business owners who are not only ignoring the restrictions, they are going to great lengths to ensure everyone knows it.

What is most worrying about the revolt by the MLAs is the fact that there is no mention of what they plan to do when things start to go catastrophically wrong. What is the plan when our health system is overrun and we start placing temporary morgues outside our hospitals.

It is unquestionable that the course of action they are embarking on will do irreparable damage to our province and ultimately all Albertans. There will be few accolades for these MLAs when the deaths caused by their ignorance skyrocket.

The UCP Party has introduced recall legislation. I would suggest the 18 MLAs would be wonderful candidates.
