Letter: Why you shouldn’t vote for Trudeau

It seems that Justin Trudeau was elected Liberal leader based on his looks and celebrity status. Now that the federal election is imminent, hopefully the voters will do a thorough evaluation of Trudeau’s competence and critically judge him on his performance.

There are many reasons to doubt his competence. Here are some examples.

While working as a drama teacher this so-called champion of diversity and inclusion mocked Black people by dressing up in blackface costumes.

Trudeau thought he was entitled to accept a free vacation to holiday with the Aga Khan at his private island. The ethics commissioner found him guilty of breach of ethics for this.

In 2018, we also saw this so-called feminist being accused of groping a former B.C. reporter. Meanwhile a strong woman such as Jody Wilson-Raybould resigned from cabinet after feeling pressured to dismiss the corruption charges against SNC-Lavalin.

It’s also come to light that Trudeau’s family gained financially from speaking at WE Charity events.

He and his defence minister have been slow and ineffective in dealing with the ongoing scandal of sexual misconduct in our military.

Many Indigenous reserves still lack proper housing and access to clean drinking water. In spite of his election promises this shameful situation has not been properly addressed.

He was slow to respond to the onset of the COVID pandemic. Canada was far behind other countries in getting proper PPE and the vaccines.

His stance on our frosty relations with China has been weak and ineffective. While the Canadian Michaels suffer in squalid conditions our government allows the Huawei heiress to live in her Vancouver mansions. Trying to appease the Chinese government obviously has not worked and has just earned us their contempt.

The ongoing tragedy in Afghanistan further shows Trudeau’s ineffective leadership. Our government had been warned over the past months that Afghan interpreters, their families and Canadian citizens must be evacuated before the Taliban seized power. In spite of the impending danger the warnings went unheeded. Hundreds of people have been abandoned to their fate.

Calling this needless and unwanted election during the new COVID wave shows that Trudeau thinks he can dupe the voters into giving him coveted majority. Hopefully the Canadian people are wiser than that.
