Best of Red Deer 2025: Red Deer gets a taste for Stacked Pancake & Breakfast House

Serving breakfast, brunch and lunch

Canada's Stacked Pancake & Breakfast House is fast becoming a national favourite with more than 100 restaurants across the country, including one in Red Deer.

The first Stacked opened in Barrie, Ont. in 2016, and the Red Deer franchise started welcoming customers in Southpointe Common, at 2004 50th Ave, on Oct. 3, 2024.

Local franchise owner Queency Nagpal said she learned about Stacked from a friend whose parents are Stacked franchisees. She liked what she learned when she researched the restaurant, and decided to bring Stacked to Red Deer.

Nagpal said Stacked was a solid business opportunity, and the hours of operation were appealing as the mother of two.

"We start at 7 a.m. and close at 3 p.m., so we can spend time with our family. Family is important," said Nagpal, who runs the restaurant with her husband Tarun Arora.

She said Southpointe Common was a good place to open Stacked, with large stores like Walmart, Winners, Sport Chek and other many other shops and retailers attracting shoppers to the area.

Located along Highway 2, and with so many small towns nearby, Red Deer was an ideal spot to introduce local customers to Stacked, she added.

Currently there are 13 Stacked restaurants in Alberta, with seven more opening soon.

Nagpal said breakfast is the meal that appeals most to customers to the restaurant that can seat 110, where all ages enjoy having their first meal of the day. Weekends are the busiest. Rainy or winter weather also brings people out to the restaurant for a cozy, home-style meal. On sunny days, Red Deerians tend to plan activities that take them out of the city.

One of the popular menu items is G.B.C. Avocado Toast, with pico salsa, cheddar cheese, bacon and two poached medium eggs, and fresh fruit or home fries.

"I really like the avocado toast. It's really fresh," Nagpal said.

The Express Breakfast, with two eggs, bacon, ham, or sausage, home fries and toast, is another top choice. Local customers also appreciate the selection of hashes, and of course pancakes.

"Pancakes are a favourite. We have lots of flavours," she said about the much sought-after breakfast meal kids can't resist.

Stacked employs about 20 workers, including kitchen and serving staff.

Nagpal, who moved from Toronto to Red Deer with her family last September to open the restaurant, said Red Deer is very quiet in comparison, but people are friendly and always say 'Good Morning.'
