Black Press Media has reached out to all Central Alberta candidates for the 2025 Federal Election and asked four questions:
1) Why are you running to be a Member of Parliament?
2) What skills do you have that make you suitable for this role?
3) What is your plan to address affordability and the cost-of-living crisis?
4) How do you think Canada should handle threats to its sovereignty?
Candidates were given a 500-word limit to answer these questions. Answers may have been edited for grammar or length.
The Federal Election is April 28. Advanced voting starts on April 18.
Riding: Red Deer
Candidate: Kyla Courte- People's Party of Canada
Why are you running to be a Member of Parliament?
To remind people that their MPs work for them and are not simply elected to propagate party agendas and maintain their positions regardless of performance for years on end. I will be a strong voice for Red Deer representation in Ottawa. I am running to offer a true improvement to Canada, I am running to preserve confederacy by advocating to reduce the size of the Federal Government while restoring autonomy to provincial leaders over their respective jurisdictions. I hope to bring faith back to a system that many have become disillusioned by and earn the votes of people who have, ‘given up,’ and feel like their voices haven’t counted.
What skills do you have that make you suitable to be an MP?
I am a great listener. I know the effort, faith and strength required for true change. I am a fierce advocate and stand up for what is right. I have a diverse wealth of experience in many different areas. I admit when I am wrong and keep a humble heart. I am aware of my shortcomings and know that I don’t know it all, to balance this I am a quick learner and ask questions. Honest to a fault and will work hard for you & efficiently to get things done.
What is your plan to address affordability and the cost-of-living crisis?
A moratorium on immigration until Canada gets our house in order. This would immediately help to cool the housing market and reliance on “cheap labour” which has driven down wages. Restrict foreign homebuyers to ensure homes are available for Canadians. Stop retaliatory tariffs which increase Canadian cost-of-living by imposing an import tax on goods we cannot get locally including much of our produce. Remove Canada from the Paris Agreement officially ending carbon taxation on both consumers and industry in favour of environmental policy that is actually effective and does not increase cost of living. Total tax reform both personal and corporate to leave more money in the pockets of the Canadians who have earned it. Dismantle supply management.
How do you think Canada should handle threats to its sovereignty?
Our greatest threat to sovereignty is our current leadership and the mainstream parties' commitment to Global agendas. These unelected bodies dictate policy decisions that are not in Canada’s best interest but rather serve the interests of idealists and elites from around the world. In a sovereign nation, policy is set at the will of the people by a truly representative government. The current campaign to demonize what was once our closest ally and friend, is an attempt to draw us further away from values deemed “American” like independence, free speech & property rights and closer to ideals that limit freedoms and increase dependency on massive government. We need to sever ties with these Global bodies, heal our economy, strengthen Canadian identity, secure our borders and end the flow of narcotics to our streets. We need to review unelected positions like the Governor General. Fixing these issues will give us the presence we need in the world to stand truly sovereign and united as Canadians, free from all external control.
