A festive street party will be held in downtown Red Deer today to celebrate Art from the Streets.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., join artists and residents of Red Deer’s core for live music and a toonie lunch, which includes hotdogs, chips, and cold drinks, at 4935 51st St. in Red Deer.

All proceeds from the barbecue will go towards purchasing art supplies for the studio.

Arts From the Streets is a volunteer-run program that reaches out through creativity to those touched by hardship and homelessness.

Based on an Art from the Streets model in Austin, Tex., the studio provides a safe and encouraging environment that nourishes the positive spirit and creativity of people through artistic expression.

Anyone can drop in to mix and mingle, or try their hand at creating art during studio hours, Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
