CAT seeks new head

Central Alberta Theatre is casting for a new executive director.

Central Alberta Theatre is casting for a new executive director.

After two years of helming CAT, Morgan McKee is resigning as executive director of the city’s most established community theatre group, which also manages the Memorial Centre.

McKee said he’s stepping down for personal reasons, due to changes within his family. But he called his time at CAT very rewarding and said he would stay on to help train his successor.

“I’ve been affiliated with CAT since the late ’80s and I’m sure I’ll stay involved in other capacities,” said McKee, who’s also a musician and composer.

A large part of his job as executive director has been handling bookings for the 300-some events held annually at the Memorial Centre, as well as overseeing the ongoing renovations of the auditorium, which require fundraising efforts.

“Morgan was very good for us. He was a great face for CAT and he’s leaving on excellent terms,” said CAT president Erna Soderberg.

She expects centre bookings and overseeing duties to be the main challenges for McKee’s successor, who will also be responsible for day-to-day operations of the CAT organization and its facilities.

Candidates do not need McKee’s performing background, but must understand the theatre business, as well as having experience in budgeting and managing staff, said Soderberg, who’s pleased that McKee will stick around to help with the transition.

Resumes are being accepted until April 20.
