City to mark Arts Day

Red Deer’s Bower Ponds Stage joins such esteemed facilities as the Banff Centre to help highlight Alberta Arts Days celebrations coming this fall.

For the weekend starting on Friday, Sept. 17, the spotlight will shine on five communities across the province, announced earlier this week as flagship communities for Arts Day celebrations, says Wendy Meeres, culture and community development co-ordinator for the City of Red Deer.

Also selected are the Arden Theatre in St. Albert, the Yates Memorial Theatre in Lethbridge and the Prairie Art Gallery in Grande Prairie.

The five sites were chosen because of their enthusiasm and participation in the 2009 Alberta Arts Days, Meeres said in a statement released on Thursday.

“Red Deer has a vibrant cultural community that offers a dynamic selection of programs, facilities and events for Red Deerians to participate in and enjoy,” she said in her statement.

Alberta Arts Days was established in 2008 to increase accessibility and awareness of arts and culture. Red Deer will offer three days of activities across the community, with more than 20 community arts groups taking part in planning events.
