A 47-year-old Donalda man is in critical condition at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton after he was allegedly beaten during a home invasion at his home early Sunday morning.

Bashaw RCMP Sgt. Geoff Buxcey said the man was taken to the Stettler hospital when the nursing staff contacted the RCMP dispatch centre. Donalda is 30 km east of Bashaw.

“It turns out to be a severe beating of the homeowner by unknown person or persons,” said Buxcey.

Buxcey said the man was taken by STARS Ambulance to Edmonton where he remains in critical but stable condition.

“We do not have anyone in custody,” he said. “We are working with the Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton General Investigation Units. We are still on scene at the home.”

The RCMP are releasing few details. Buxcey said the incident was a targeted assault and there is no risk to the general public.
