Edmonton Folk Festival denied federal stimulus funding

The Edmonton Folk Music Festival says the Conservative government has turned down its request for a share of federal stimulus money.

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Folk Music Festival says the Conservative government has turned down its request for a share of federal stimulus money.

Festival producer Terry Wickham says Ottawa has told him the two-year program received a high volume of applicants and all decisions are final.

Wickham is calling for a review of the selection process.

He says Calgary’s Folk Music Festival received $291,375 under the same program.

Two events in Edmonton did receive cash from the fund — the Edmonton Indy and the Edmonton International Fringe Festival.

The folk festival is being held in the Edmonton-Strathcona riding, which is held by the NDP.
