Exhibit marks arts gala

“Rooted in the arts” means different things to assorted artists.

“Rooted in the arts” means different things to assorted artists.

The slogan of the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Awards was interpreted both literally and metaphorically by various artists in a new exhibit at the Harris-Warke Gallery in downtown Red Deer.

The artworks explore themes of being anchored, centred, grounded, established, settled and entrenched.

The Rooted in the Arts exhibit — which is being held to mark the presentation of the prestigious arts awards at Red Deer College on June 15 — is showing in new gallery space, upstairs at the Sunworks store on 4924 Ross St.

The exhibit is on until June 22. A First Friday reception will be held on Friday, June 7, from 6 to 8 p.m.
