First Friday features artwork by locals

New works by local artists Vivian Bennett, Erika Schulz, Jeri-Lynn Ing, Patti Morris and Rob Fleming can be seen at this month’s First Friday exhibits at galleries around Red Deer.

New works by local artists Vivian Bennett, Erika Schulz, Jeri-Lynn Ing, Patti Morris and Rob Fleming can be seen at this month’s First Friday exhibits at galleries around Red Deer.

Wheels in Motion, featuring the latest quilts by Morris, will be showing at the Kiwanis Gallery at the Red Deer Public Library, with the opening reception from 6:30 to 8:20 p.m. on Friday.

Fleming will be showing his new artworks at The Hub on Ross Street. A reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by Randi Boulton performing her music from 7 to 9 p.m.

Five artists — Schulz, Ing, Bennett, Elizabeth Ferchuk and Rikki Renard — will be exhibiting their paintings and other works at Gallery IS. The opening reception will be from 6 to 9 p.m.

A number of other group shows are being held around the city.

The Harris-Warke Gallery is holding its annual fundraiser, called This is Somewhere, featuring artworks inspired by Red Deer. A reception and sale will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

Art from the Streets, at 4935 51st St., is also displaying works by several artists, with a reception planned from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery will be open until 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Featured shows are Portraits of Alberta Farm Women by Dawn Saunders Dahl, Farm Fragments by Jean Pederson, Nya Backen: The New Land by Bert Fors, and two toy displays.
