Paintings depicting the simplicity of nature and readings of stories, poems and song lyrics are on at art galleries around Red Deer during the First Friday in February.
Gallery IS is displaying Euphoria, new collection of paintings by Rikki Renard that express the beauty and peacefulness of nature. The reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.
The Harris-Warke Gallery will feature readings by Susan Delaney, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
Monoprints by Donna Gallant and Joan Xauen Wieser will continue being shown at the Kiwanis Gallery in the Red Deer Public Library. But since the prints were featured in last month’s First Friday, Red Deer writer Jock Mackenzie will be reading from his new crime drama, Dealing with Dymans, and will also share short stories, poems, and song lyrics. The reception is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery will be featuring A Profound Legacy: Selections from the MAG’s First Nations Art Collection, and The Narrative Quest, artworks by aboriginal artists from the Alberta Foundation of the Arts Collection. As well, Northern Neighbours: Innuit Art and Artifacts taken from the MAG’s collection will continue showing at The MAG, which will have extended hours, from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Art from the Streets will be shown at 4935-51st Street. The reception for this group show will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Hub on Ross Street is exhibiting All the Art We Do, featuring collaborative art by 10 different artists. The reception is from 5 to 7 p.m.
As well, a couple of other downtown establishments will be exhibiting works this First Friday.
Cafe Pichilingue will show Urban Nature, photographs by Sky Stevens, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
And The Velvet Olive lounge will show artworks by Marianne Vanderkley until close on Friday night.
