First Friday opens with mysterious air

Some mystery and deception have been woven into art exhibits happening around Red Deer on the First Friday in May.

The enigmatically titled Unopened Doors show, featuring the works of artist Sandy Warren, is on at Gallery IS on Alexander Way. The opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Deformity + Deception exhibit at the Harris-Warke Gallery, at the back of Sunworks on Ross Street, will showcase pieces by artist Jillian Best. The reception is 6 to 8 p.m.

All sorts of local creativity is being channelled through the paintings, prints and sculptures of various Alberta artists at bilton contemporary art. A reception of the It’s In the Bag group show runs 7 to 9 p.m.

A retrospective of the prints and paintings of Red Deer artist Dennis Moffat is being held at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery, with a 7 to 9 p.m. reception.

The landscapes and still-life paintings of George Cannon will be shown at The Loft on Gaetz (4920 Gaetz Ave.). The reception is 7 to 9 p.m.

And some awesome art from Red Deer public middle school students is being shown at the Kiwanis Gallery at the Red Deer Public Library. The opening reception is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
