A fundraiser for Centrefest will feature the Western Canadian duo Zerbin, entertaining along with special guest bands Friends of Foes and Foxjaw at the International Beer Haus and Stage in downtown Red Deer.

Zerbin is made up of Peter Mol and his musical partner Jason Zerbin. They are former Edmonton high school classmates, who began creating beautiful music together after meeting again as adult musicians.

“We agree on a lot of things and complement each other musically and stylistically,” Mol has stated.

Their indie folk-rock band has played to soldout crowds in Red Deer and is happy to make a return appearance.

The duo released a 2013 five-track EP, Touch, which contains slice-of-life songs the group is getting known for. Mol said the EP’s title track is a straight-ahead rock song, while the tune Lift encourages listeners to “lift your head up and feel good, even when life doesn’t work out as expected.”

Take Your Heart is a tune Jason wrote, said Mol, as a love song to the woman who recently became his wife.

“Our experiences with life tend to creep through into our songs,” added Mol, who still lives in Edmonton.

The duo both play guitars and all of the other instruments on their recordings, but often hire musicians to accompany them while on tour.

Zerbin’s music has been getting CBC radio play in Edmonton, Toronto
