Fans of clean-cut Alberta country singer Jaydee Bixby can see him perform in Red Deer this month.
The one-time city resident will briefly be back in his old stomping grounds to sing on Thursday, June 24, at the Memorial Centre.
Bixby’s move to Vancouver and his on-off relationship with a girlfriend have influenced his second CD, Easy to Love.
The 19-year-old had a hand in writing half the songs on the new release, including the descriptive Always Love My Country, the unabashed love song The Long Haul and the heart-breaker It’s Over Now.
“I’ve really embraced every aspect of making a CD this time” — from “writing for an album that I would like to hear,” to influencing the sound mixing, said Bixby, who admits a romantic breakup inspired It’s Over Now, a song that admits “I broke your heart right in two.”
The Drumheller native was the runner-up at age 16 on the Canadian Idol TV show, which helped launch his career.
His debut album, Cowboys and Cadillacs, sold more than 21,000 copies and produced four radio-friendly singles.
Tickets to the 8 p.m. Red Deer concert are $31.30 from the Black Knight Ticket Centre.
Bixby is also playing at Edmonton’s Oil City Roadhouse on June 30 and a Stampede party at the Ranchman’s in Calgary on July 13.
