John Antoniuk, Jen Lane join forces at Velvet Olive

He’s a little bit rootsy, she’s a little bit country. Together, they’ll be singing some sweet harmonies in Red Deer.

He’s a little bit rootsy, she’s a little bit country. Together, they’ll be singing some sweet harmonies in Red Deer.

John Antoniuk and Jen Lane, the singers behind the Jen & John duets album, will perform on Thursday at the Velvet Olive.

The Saskatoon-based performers usually keep their projects separate. Antoniuk has put out the solo albums Smokekiller and Always With You, while Lane got three of her four last releases nominated for the Western Canadian Music Awards.

But after rubbing shoulders at various music events, the two artists began collaborating on songwriting. They found their personal chemistry came through in original tunes they recorded for the Jen & John album (which also contains fun covers of Ryan Adams’s Oh My Sweet Carolina and J.J. Cale’s Crazy Mama).
