TORONTO — Canadian funnyman Martin Short is applying his chameleon-like voice to the Cat in the Hat.

The comedian, known for over-the-top characters including Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick, will voice the iconic Dr. Seuss character in the upcoming animated series, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!

The half-hour show premieres Aug. 7 on Treehouse.

Based on the book collection, The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library, the series focuses on science and nature discoveries for preschoolers.

With Cat as their guide, best friends Sally and Nick explore all corners of the globe in Cat’s one-of-a-kind custom vehicle, the Thinga-ma-jigger.

In the first episode, Sally and Nick run out of honey and visit Queen Priscilla Buzzoo who invites them to join her in the bee dance to learn how honey is made.
