Internationally known ceramics artist Gail Nichols will discuss her works on Monday at Red Deer College.

Nichols, who’s renowned globally for her innovative soda glazing and has published a book on the subject, will talk about her approach at 7 p.m. in the Learning Common (Room 2909, outside the painting studio).

Nichols was born in Michigan, but settled in Australia after working as a Peace Corps volunteer.

Her interest in ceramics started as a hobby while her children were young, then progressed to the professional level after she began studying art in Sydney.

She began experimenting with soda glazing in 1989, and eventually completed a research PhD in 2002.

Her studio is located in New South Wales.

Nichols also instructs at the Australia National University School of Art in Canberra and teaches workshops across the world.
