Art lovers rejoice — galleries across the Red Deer are gearing up for First Friday this week.
And a local gallery has returned to the lineup.
Gallery IS will be taking part in First Friday again after previously opting out.
Jeri-Lyn Ing continues to run Gallery IS, now with Sue Woolgar. Woolgar has taken over Erika Schulz’s studio space.
The pair they will display their recent art pieces on Friday from 1 to 7 p.m., with official opening of Open Studio beginning at 5 p.m.
Edmonton-based artist Samantha Williams-Chapelsky’s Somewhere in the Hills exhibit will be on display at the Harris-Warke Gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and continue until May 3.
The Arts a la Carte will present the Breathing Spaces exhibit in the Marjorie Wood Gallery at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit will run until April 30.
Velvet Olive will feature photographs by Jim McKinley and Cafe Pichilingue will feature paintings by Jericca Bradshaw for the entire month.
The Hub will have Jennifer Holmes-Gohring’s mixed mediums A Mixture of Everything exhibit on display from 5 to 7 p.m. Her art will be on displayed at the pub until April 30.
Following the exhibition at The Hub on First Friday, local disability band Soulful Noize will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. The cash-only admission is $15 per person and $30 per family at the door.
The Kiwanis Gallery will also display mixed medium art during First Friday, featuring Wendy Meeres’ Open and Closed exhibit. Sports poet Frank Pavlick will perform original material in conjunction with the exhibit.
While Kiwanis Gallery previously hosted First Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the gallery will be hosting it from 6 to 8 p.m. as of this Friday. The Open and Closed exhibit will end April 27.
