A dozen people were arrested and drugs and weapons seized in Innisfail as part of an RCMP drug investigation.
Innisfail RCMP were working with Alberta Sheriffs Safer Communities (SCAN) in a drug trafficking investigation that led to three Innisfail residences being searched on Tuesday. An RCMP Emergency Response team and officers from the Red Deer and central Alberta crime reduction units were also involved.
Cocaine, methamphetamine, items related to selling drugs and a Taser-like weapon found.
Four are facing charges so far.
A 38-year-old Innisfail man has been charged with unlawful possession of items used for drug trafficking. He is due in Red Deer Court of Justice on Nov. 28.
A 46-year-old man and 38-year-old woman, both of Innisfail, have also been charged with unlawful possession of items used for drug trafficking. Both are due in Red Deer court on Dec. 17.
A 45-year-old Innisfail woman has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and is due in Red Deer court the same day.
The other eight arrested were released, but the investigation continues.
"These individuals and properties were (allegedly) actively engaged in the distribution of drugs in the community,” says Innisfail detachment commander Staff Sgt Ian Ihme.
“This joint effort was successful in interrupting them in the short term and we will work to ensure longer term solutions.”
"The newly created central Alberta SCAN team’s close collaboration with law enforcement partners like the Innisfail RCMP detachment on this operation is making Alberta communities significantly safer. This work not only eradicates illegal activity, but also gives Albertans well-deserved peace of mind,” says Alberta Sheriffs Supt. Mike Letourneau.
