A member of the Hells Angels Alberta Nomads chapter is facing gun-related charges after being arrested in Red Deer.

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams' (ALERT) Gang Enforcement Team arrested a 55-year-old man on Nov. 13 accused of having a Glock handgun and a number of magazines.

ALERT says the suspect and two other members of the Syndicate Motorcycle Club, a Hells Angels support club, were allegedly committing an assault when police arrived. It is alleged the 55-year-old suspect was trying to hide a firearm in a vehicle when stopped by police.

“Despite their best efforts to portray themselves as nothing more than motorcycle enthusiasts, the Hells Angels routinely find themselves involved in criminal activity and are a threatening presence in our communities,” said ALERT Insp. Angela Kemp.

The suspect has been charged with assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, carrying a concealed weapon and failing to comply with a release order.

The suspect will be in Red Deer Court of Justice on Nov. 27 to address bail.

ALERT’s Integrated Gang Enforcement Team is a uniform team focused on violence suppression and combating gang activity throughout the province.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.
