A Lacombe County gravel pit is going to be turned into a recreation area thanks to a local family.
The Abma family donated a gravel pit at Township Road 410 and Range Road 275 to the county in 2012 on the condition that when the pit was mined out the site be used for recreation.
That day is coming soon and the county has hired a planning and design consultant to create a vision for reclaiming the site and transforming it into a recreation area.
Before that happens, the county wants to get feedback from residents on early design concepts and to hear what ideas the public has about how the site could be used and what sort of amenities offered.
An open house has been set for July 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lacombe County offices at 40403 Range Road 274.
An online survey is also going to be available on the county's website at lacombecounty.com from July 15 to Aug. 7 to gather more input.
