Phosphorous grenades, a mortar launcher and other military-grade weapons were in a stash found by Olds RCMP.
The weapons haul came to light after Innisfail RCMP got a call that a pickup had been stolen in the area. With help from the owner and the vehicle's OnStar GPS police tracked the stolen 2018 Chevrolet Silverado to a rural property in Mountain View County.
After getting a search warrant, police recovered the stolen truck and an arsenal of weapons, ammunition and other military equipment last Thursday.
Three white phosphorous grenades, a mortar launcher, a dozen magazines and a bandolier full of 7.62-millimetre rounds, three bolt-action rifles, eight air pistols and BB guns and an air rifle were recovered along with a box filled with military equipment, including tarps and helmets that were previously reported stolen out of Lacombe County.
A Canadian Armed Forces explosive ordnance disposal team was called in to safely deal with the grenades.
Olds RCMP continues to investigate. A suspect has not yet been identified.
