Emergency responders called off a search of Red Deer River about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Police and Red Deer Emergency Services scoured the banks of the river from Gaetz Avenue bridge downstream after someone was concerned about a person they saw near the Gaetz Avenue bridge.
“RCMP and city Fire and Rescue staff did not locate anyone in distress during their searches, and police concluded their search shortly before 4 pm.,” RCMP said in an update.
The search was triggered by a 1:30 p.m. call to police said that someone may have entered the water.
“The person didn’t see somebody go into the water,” said a police spokesperson. “They were afraid someone was about to.”
The spokesperson couldn’t say if the passerby was on foot or in a car or where they saw the person that concerned them.
Police searched the banks of the river near the bridge and at Three Mile Bend. Red Deer Emergency Services launched a boat and three fire-medics searched from the bridge downstream.
Anyone with information is asked to call Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575.
