A Red Deer man faces numerous firearms charges after another man suffered a non-serious gunshot wound during an altercation at an apartment building in the Highland Green neighbourhood on Tuesday.

Among the charges the man faces are discharging a firearm with intent to wound, robbery using a restricted or prohibited firearm, pointing a firearm, and possess a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

The 31-year-old has been remanded in custody and will appear Red Deer provincial court on Thursday.

On Monday, Red Deer RCMP took several people into custody after the disturbance that occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. in the area of 59th Avenue and 63rd Street.

RCMP said a firearm was discharged during an altercation between two men who were known to each other. One man suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
