October is global wool month and Holme Hus Antiques is putting its own spin on celebrating it this weekend.
Harvests Gold and Textiles Bold Celebration runs Oct. 5-6 at Holme Hus and the Farm with the Good Food, just west of Red Deer off Highway 11 at 38535 RR 282.
There will be a wide variety of Norwegian knits and other textiles as well as demonstrations at the event, which runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Among the special guests will be Markerville textile artist Mary Vanson, who is a quilter and an award-winning knitter who often incorporates traditional Nordic patterns into her work. She has won the Prize of Excellence at the Canadian Quilters Association Juried Show.
Quilted bags and mittens created by Vanson are sold in the Red Barn at Holme Hus Antiques.
The earliest examples of knitting in Nordic regions appears in the 16th century. Specific patterns and colours are closely tied to the regions they originate from and motifs often feature flora, fauna and geographic elements.
