Stettler man sentenced on child pornography charges

A Stettler man will be spending another year in jail, a court has decided.

Daniel Benjamin Penner, 37, was arrested in Stettler in February 2024 by the RCMP and the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit on several charges.

Charges at the time included:

-Transmit child pornography
-Accessing child pornography
-Possession of child pornography
-Unauthorized possession of a firearm
-Breach of probation order

After working its way through the court process, Penner was sentenced to 12 months for accessing child pornography, two months for possession of a firearm while prohibited, a five-year firearms prohibition, and six months for failing to comply with a prohibition order.

All sentences are to be served consecutively, including time already served. 

Penner was sentenced on Sept. 23.
