A man has been arrested after a break and enter led to two vehicles being stolen.

On June 16, police received a report from a resident who discovered both his truck and his roommate's work truck had been stolen from their residence on 49th Street in Lacombe.

Prior to noticing the vehicles were missing, they were last seen parked at 10 p.m., one in the driveway and the other on the street in front of the house.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect (s) had unlawfully entered the residence through an unlocked door and stolen multiple sets of keys that had been left on a ledge around 15 feet from the entrance.

The suspect (s) then used the keys to take both vehicles.

Other than the vehicles, a wallet, identification, and other personal items were also reported stolen from inside one of the trucks.

One of the stolen trucks, a 2025 black GMC Sierra crew cab, was equipped with GPS tracking.

The GPS system indicated the vehicle had travelled approximately 80 kilometres since it was stolen and was in Leduc.

The registered owner promptly notified police of the vehicle's updated location.

Lacombe Police coordinated with Leduc RCMP in the area, and the stolen work truck was later located unoccupied near an area service station.

Surveillance footage from the vicinity helped police identify the suspect, who was then arrested without incident.

John Knox, a 50-year-old resident of Red Deer, Alta., has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

A judicial interim release hearing was held, and Knox is scheduled to appear in court on July 10 at the Alberta Court of Justice in the City of Leduc.

A 2019 black Chevrolet Silverado (Alberta License plat BTH 6560) also stolen during the incident has still not been located.

The investigation into the other vehicle's location is still ongoing.

The Lacombe Police Service is thankful to the public and its partner agencies for their assistance and reminds residents to ensure their homes and vehicles are always locked and secured.

Individuals with information related to the incident or other criminal activity in the area can contact the Lacome Police Service at 403-782-3279 or their local police agency.
