The Alberta Women's Curling Championships start Wednesday in Rimbey

The provincial championships will wrap up Sunday

Rimbey will be the place to be this week for the Alberta Curling Women's Championships, presented by Sentinel Storage. The event will run from Jan. 22-26.

The first draw will take place at 1:00 p.m. Jan. 22, while the second will take place later that evening at 7:00 p.m.

The opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. and will be emceed by a local member of the Rimbey Curling Club, Kevin Jensen.

Local teacher Kassidy Hohn will be singing Oh Canada.

During the territorial acknowledgements, The Swampy family from Samson Cree Nation in Maskwacis will offer a traditional blessing and dance.

A parade of athletes and dignitaries will later be introduced to begin the week's excitement.

Four young locals including Leah Danser (who will hold the broom), Brody Kilden and Easton Mann as the Sweeper and Alexa Linton, will be the honourary rock throwing team for the ceremonial first rock.

Volunteers from across central Alberta have stepped forward to help out with this event throughout the week, and Rimbey is the smallest municipality in the province to have ever host the event.
