Leduc RCMP have declare a tow ban on the Queen Elizabeth highway as a March blizzard sweeps the area, prompting snowfall warnings from Environment Canada.

An advisory of the tow ban was released shortly after 3 p.m. March 13.

"RCMP is advising that there is a tow ban in effect on Highway 2 from the city limit of Edmonton to Highway 611," said Public Information Officer Cpl. Guillaume Lamoureux. "They are also warning the public of poor road conditions in the greater Edmonton area."

Environment Canada has issued a heavy snowfall warning for much of the centre of the province, projecting up to 20 centimetres of snow could fall before the end of the day.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow," said the weather alert issued this morning. "There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.

"Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #ABStorm."

Earlier today, Leduc RCMP announced they had responded to multiple vehicle collisions and asked residents to stay home if possible.
