Actions speak louder than hellfire

Mark Gadboury, your recent letter to the editor left a bitter taste in my mouth.

It seems you have completely missed the concept of love and grace. Have you not read Matthew 22:37-39, or Matthew 7, or most of the gospel?

As a Christian, I am called to love, not to judge.

In his columns, Chris Salomons paints a picture of people that are judged by us, by society, by themselves. I believe he does this so we as readers gain perspective on something we may have little or no knowledge of. So we can understand where these people are coming from.

You spoke of the need for gospel-believing Christians to “warn” sinners of the imminent threat of hell and condemnation by God, by using the words guilt and condemnation. Well if you feel that is necessary, you are more than welcome to stand on a soap box and preach hellfire and brimstone.

I’m just not sure what kind of response you will get.

Do you think these people are ignorant of their sin? Are they unaware of the pain they have caused? Of course not. But they do not know how to change. And that is where people like Chris come in — by demonstrating how to love, by feeding the hungry, visiting the sick, clothing the naked.

I know few people like Chris, who give of themselves because of a deep passion to see people change for the better.

And just so you know, many, many people have turned toward God because of people like Chris and the ministries they are part of.

Chris’s actions speak for themselves.
