ALS fundraiser rang in the new year

Once again the clatter of bowling pins heralded the annual Darby Chrest New Years’ Day Charity Memorial Tournament at Heritage Lanes.

Once again the clatter of bowling pins heralded the annual Darby Chrest New Years’ Day Charity Memorial Tournament at Heritage Lanes. The tournament was held in honor of Darby Chrest and his dedication and passion for bowling at Heritage Lanes, sports in Alberta and his support of the ALS Society (Loy Gehrig’s).

Representatives for the ALS Walk of Red Deer were on hand to accept the cheque for over $4,500. Shelby Chrest his family and staff at Heritage Lanes should be commended once again for the fantastic job they did organizing the annual event. What a great way to start off the New Year!

The fundraising will continue in 2011 as preparations begin for the eighth Annual ALS WALK to be held at Little Chief Park at Bower Ponds on June 18.

I want to thank all the participants, the staff at Heritage Lanes and the ALS volunteers who attended and who participated and helped. Also I’d like to thank Shelby Chrest for his dedication, and hard work on this great event.

ALS is a horrible fatal disease and with the help of this great community we live in, we are raising awareness and funds to eradicate ALS. For more info on ALS go to www.als.ca or you can join our face book group at alsrdab@groups.facebook.com
