Breast-feeding still frowned upon

We may know all of the great health benefits that studies have attributed to breast-feeding, such as better academic performance, and protection against obesity, allergies, diabetes, and mental health issues.

Regarding the article “How to raise a smarter, healthier child” in the Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, Red Deer Advocate:

We may know all of the great health benefits that studies have attributed to breast-feeding, such as better academic performance, and protection against obesity, allergies, diabetes, and mental health issues.

But we, as a society, make it difficult for women to breast-feed.

We have placed a stigma on breast-feeding, especially of the older baby.

We try to hide it away.

Let’s face it. In an article touting the benefits of breast-feeding, we can’t even show a baby breast-feeding, we have to display a giant picture of a baby bottle feeding! Come on!
