Bill Greenwood’s latest waste of valuable trees in the Advocate went well beyond his usual, self-aggrandizing, bullying approach to any views other than his own. That can be shrugged off as a form of insecurity, as is often seen in children trying to find their place in a world with many shades of grey but almost no black and white.
His expressions of fear of people whose views differ from his own made this Canadian-born citizen smile slightly. However, calling my country “damnable” and declaring that those who disagree with him should find another country in which to live, smacks of arrogance beyond anything Mr. Greenwood has written to date. Is he really the only kind of citizen that Canada should contain? The only kind who truly “belongs here”? Who appointed him judge and jury?
Actually, it occurs to me that perhaps the gentleman might himself consider relocation to a more compatible community. For instance, some folks south of the 49th parallel, who are busy holding Tea Parties, sound like he’d enjoy their company. After all, if Mr. Greenwood finds Canada “damnable” and full of people he’s “scared” of (including, apparently, one of the Advocate’s editors) life must get pretty uncomfortable for him.
Seriously, this cursing of Canada is deeply offensive, and unworthy of the usually even-handed approach in your publication. I notice that you are advertising for a freelance writer for The Advocate. I sincerely hope that this will be a Canadian who does not curse this country, or fear its diverse citizens.
