I also was shocked by the polls

In response to the front page article on Wednesday, Oct. 20, entitled Moore shocked by defeat at polls, I wish to also express my shock — shock that some Catholic voters of Red Deer may have used this election to target an individual who has faithfully served our Catholic schools, in an exemplary way, for the past six years.

Moore was outstanding in her belief in the importance of our Catholic schools and in her efforts to provide quality education with faith-based values for all our students, staff and families. In recent months, Christine Moore stood up for the principles of justice, honesty and integrity within the parish community of Sacred Heart in Red Deer.

I am not alone in my belief that the price of this is the loss of her position on the school board. Unbelievably, it has brought about the loss of the dedicated services of someone who contributed immensely to the Catholic School System, Sacred Heart Parish, the community of Red Deer — as well as other communities under the RDCRD, and the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton.

Sadly, I have to say that, during the campaign process, I encountered persons whose comments indicated that there was a campaign against her — in some cases it came from persons who did not even know her. This is a shame for our entire community. Catholic education across the province has suffered a great loss.
