Irresponsible dog owners leaving behind disgusting mess

I am a new resident to Red Deer after living in Calgary for 25 years. Recently I took my two year-old and newborn out for a walk along the trails in our Oriole Park West neighbourhood.

I was disgusted to see that with the snow gone, the trails and grassy areas adjacent were littered with mounds of dog feces!

I love animals but Red Deer pet owners are not being responsible. I have also noted the same problems along the sidewalks in my neighbourhood and on adjacent properties. I’m sure my fellow property owners are not thrilled to have to clean up someone else’s dog’s mess this spring.

I have been feeling so housebound with all the snow, and now I’m concerned about taking my children on walks as we all seem to return with feces on our shoes and our stroller wheels. The smell is overpowering and the feces could present a health risk.

I noticed today in the Calgary Herald that Calgary has a “Scoopy Doo Day” scheduled for Sunday to clean up the mess in their parks.

I’d be happy to take you on a “doggy doo doo” tour in my neighbourhood so you can see how bad the problem is.
