According to the Red Deer Advocate, development of Alberta’s oilsands threatens to create an environmental fiasco.

Companies have been developing the oilsands for more than 40 years. It is a large, industrial operation and it’s not perfect. Along with safe, reliable energy supplies, come challenges. The goal is to develop oilsands safely and responsibly, using the latest technology to improve the process and reduce the environmental footprint.

The Canadian oil and gas industry wants what research says Canadians want — an appropriate balance of environmental protection, economic growth and safe, reliable energy supplies. Your uninformed, caustic opinion/editorial might have been fun to write (quotes from zealous environmental activists included) but it adds nothing to the serious discussions occurring among reasonable people seeking solutions to our energy challenges.

Advocate readers deserve the real story about oilsands. Take a closer look at www.capp.ca/oilsands
