Old seniors homes should have been maintained

Re: Affordable seniors accommodations in Red Deer

Thank you, Florence Anne Kinley (letter to the editor, the Advocate, Friday, Dec. 17).

I fully agree with your comments in regard to two seniors residences closing down in Red Deer.

These two seniors residences are less than 50 years old and are structural safe and sound.

Original construction costs were likely 10 per cent of buildings costs today.

A little more maintenance in the past could have provided very economical rental rates today.

In fact, I am of the opinion these residences can still be refurbished, which would provide affordable accommodation for seniors and ease the senior housing shortages.

The location of these residences are excellent for seniors.

Provincial elections are coming so cast your ballots accordingly.
