Perhaps Canada should screen immigrants more closely

I am sure that I am not alone in feeling frustrated and angry with both the Alberta government and immigrant groups like the Somalis.

I am sure that I am not alone in feeling frustrated and angry with both the Alberta government and immigrant groups like the Somalis.

I read recently that the Alberta government will spend $1.9 million to try to cut the rising number of Somali youth dying in drug trade violence.

“There are multiple barriers for the Somali community,” said the president of the Somali Canadian Cultural Society of Edmonton.

“There are employment barriers, there’s educational ones, and a lack of knowledge about the system and the culture and the language,” he added. “There is racism too.”

All of this makes me wonder if the bar is set too low for prospective immigrants to our country. Countless other immigrant groups have come to this country for a better life and did not have to resort to peddling drugs to our children.

Maybe it’s time that the average Canadian started to push the government to stop this type of immigration, or better still to send these people back to their home countries.

If this sounds racist, well maybe there is a very good reason for it.
