I have been following the articles on seniors care with interest.
When my husband had to go to nursing care, he was in the hospital here and was sent to Olds.
I was no longer driving and depended on rides with family. They were all working so it was not always convenient to take me. Ross, my husband, was very much a family man so it was a hardship for him.
Living in Victoria Park, I have seen this repeatedly with spouses sent to Trochu, Olds, Rimbey and other places.
The new facility doesn’t provide many more beds than Valley Park and Red Deer Nursing Home combined, while the population of Red Deer has grown and the numbers of seniors has increased considerably.
This will cause more hardship for couples. Victoria Park has a larger number of 90-plus seniors, I being one of them. Are we to be parted from our families because of the closing of these two facilities?
We must urge the government to reconsider this need.
