Services here on child development

I appreciated reading the Associated Press article Comparing Kids in Thursday, March 31, 2011, edition of the Advocate.

I appreciated reading the Associated Press article Comparing Kids in Thursday, March 31, 2011, edition of the Advocate.

This article talked about parents wanting to know about “normal development” and how their own children were progressing.

At Family Services of Central Alberta, we provide a development questionnaire that is free and is done by the parents at a time that is convenient for them and their child. This development tool called an Ages and Stages Questionnaire is available for children from two to 60 months of age.

This check up tool looks at 30 developmental skills that are divided into five areas and can be completed in person at our agency, in the parent’s home and it is also available to be submitted online. Parents take their children in for their annual checkups with their doctors and dentists and it is recommended that a developmental checkup is completed as well to ensure that the child is progressing at a developmentally appropriate rate.

This is just one of the services that Family Services of Central Alberta provide. We also provide parenting support through groups, education, home visitation, tip sheets and one-on-one meeting with parent coaches and parent and child play groups.

We are a non-profit charity that provides programs and services that strengthen the health of families in Central Alberta.

I invite you to visit us online at www.fsca.ca, at our downtown location at 5409 50th Ave. or at the Kinsmen Family Place at Parkland Mall to learn more about the Ages and Stages Questionnaire and your own child’s development.
