Simpler traffic solution needed

Re: Advocate report Oct. 6: Residents to have say on road work.

If you haven’t seen the temporary barrier on 39th Street just east of Deer Park Alliance Church, you should go take a look and see how the city has wasted your tax dollars.

Because a vehicle or two went off the road in this area in the past years, they spent $110,000 erecting the barrier on the north side of the street. It doesn’t make any sense to the average citizen and it looks ugly.

Council, it is now reported, is considering spending more money on it by adding permanent electronic speed signs and pedestrian crosswalk signals.

You can be sure that after the speed signs are in place for a couple of weeks, drivers will ignore them as they do posted speeds in other areas.

If they are so concerned about the speed on that stretch of road, there is a very simple and inexpensive way to solve the problem. Make the intersection of 39th Street and Davison Drive a four-way stop and the intersection of 39th Street and Douglas Avenue a three-way stop.

It makes one wonder what influential person lives in that area for the city to have spent so much money when a much simpler solution is available.
