Re. March 13 Advocate story, headlined Prowling wolves poisoned:
Canadian wildlife officers poisoning wild animals, in Alberta? And I thought Sarah Palin’s project of aerial shooting of wolves was shocking! The Fish and Wildlife officer said that wolves have been in the area for 20 to 30 years?
Well, I’m not a wildlife official (and don’t think I would want to be one, after reading about what they do), but I have the feeling that wolves have been in the area for a few hundred years.
It’s arrogant enough to think that we have a right to kill off all the wild animals, to farm domestic cattle easier, but to think that we have the right to poison animals is something that I can’t quite figure out and all this under the guise of “wildlife officialdom.”
We would never allow domestic animals to suffer a poisoning death, would we? We would be in court and charged for that! So why do we allow it to happen to non-domestic animals? Is this symbolic of our irreverence towards the natural world?
Wildlife should not ever be killed off, to protect cattle. We need every species of wildlife, especially those that are still in existence.
