Why isn’t Ignatieff proud to be a Canadian?

Just the other night on CTV news, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff announced to the Canadian people that he is ashamed to be a Canadian.

Just the other night on CTV news, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff announced to the Canadian people that he is ashamed to be a Canadian.

This coming from a man who wants desperately to be the next prime minister.

With all the faults we may have, I am proud to be a Canadian, here at home or in any country that I have visited, be it the role we have played in trying to bring peace to many wartorn countries around the world, or to disaster relief to some unfortunate population, suffering from a catastrophic event.

Based on our population, we do as much or more than any other country.

Ignatieff was (in all fairness to him) speaking in regards to Canada’s performance on climate change.

I would suggest he get his head out of the sand.

If we are as bad at polluting our atmosphere as he would claims we are, then how come I can look out my living room window, and if it is not raining or snowing, and see the mountains some 50 miles away.

But in Mexico City, or San Diego, Calif., I can barely see a city block?

My son visited China last year and told me it was even worse there.

I am not saying that we can not do a better job here in Canada, but I do believe we are doing a lot more than Ignatieff would want us to believe.

I personally believe that some of the countries that love to single out Canada as the big bad wolf are only looking for financial help from us, to clean up their own mess — which if they did receive it, would not offer any guarantee that it would be used for that purpose.

A proud Canadian,

R.C. Bunnah
