Acetaminophen tablets for kids recalled

The distributor of a variety of junior and children’s strength acetaminophen tablets is recalling the products after receiving reports about faulty child-resistant packaging, Health Canada said Tuesday.

OTTAWA — The distributor of a variety of junior and children’s strength acetaminophen tablets is recalling the products after receiving reports about faulty child-resistant packaging, Health Canada said Tuesday.

Tanta Pharmaceuticals Inc. said the safety mechanism on some of the caps may not be working properly and the caps may open even in the locked position, presenting a risk to children who are able to open the bottle and ingest the contents.

The company is asking retailers to immediately stop sale of the products and return them to the company.

The acetaminophen products are sold by a number of retailers across Canada, including Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaws and Preferred Pharmacy.

The following products, identified by flavour, drug identification number (DIN) and brand name, are being recalled:

• Junior Strength Acetaminophen Tablets, 160 mg, Bubblegum 20’s, DIN: 02230934, Life Brand Junior Rapid Melts; Teddy’s Choice Jr. Meltables

• Junior Strength Acetaminophen Tablets, 160 mg, Grape 20’s, DIN: 02230934, Life Brand Junior Rapid Melts; Teddy’s Choice Jr. Meltables; Preferred Pharmacy Jr. Melts; Tanta Junior Melts.

• Children’s Strength Acetaminophen Tablets, 80 mg, Bubblegum 24’s, DIN: 02015676, Life Brand Child’s Rapid Melts; Teddy’s Choice Child Meltables

• Children’s Strength Acetaminophen Tablets, 80 mg, Grape 24’s, DIN: 02015676, Life Brand Child’s Rapid Melts; Teddy’s Choice Child Meltables
