CHARLOTTETOWN — Chef Michael Smith is putting his home province in the spotlight with a new online web series featuring the people, places and foods of Prince Edward Island.

The Food Network Canada star is teaming with the Culinary Alliance of Prince Edward Island to produce Food Country.

The 24-episode series features Smith as he sources ingredients throughout P.E.I. and returns to his kitchen to cook and create dishes.

A new episode will launch each week, alternating between “field” and “kitchen” episodes.

The field features will see Smith visiting potato farms, vegetable farms, beef farms, oyster beds, local markets and a vodka distillery or heading out onto the water aboard a lobster boat.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, he will transform ingredients he discovers into simple dishes.

The debut episode that launched Friday features Smith visiting the vegetable farm Brookfield Gardens.

“We’re showing the world what a special food destination we are, how food is woven into the tapestry of our culture and why we’re worth a special visit,” he said in a release.
