Ebook war begins

Amazon.com Inc. is now selling the larger version of its Kindle e-reader in Canada.

TORONTO — Amazon.com Inc. is now selling the larger version of its Kindle e-reader in Canada.

The Kindle DX screen measures 24.6 cm diagonally, compared with the 15-cm screen of the smaller Kindle.

The Kindle DX ships to Canada for just under $600 after factoring in currency exchange, taxes and shipping. The original Kindle is about $330 shipped.

More news is expected in the days ahead about new competition for the Kindle and Sony’s line of e-readers.

Product announcements about new e-readers are expected at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, starting Thursday, and Apple also is rumoured to be bringing out a new tablet, e-reader style device.

This is expected to be a big year for ebooks as more readers give digital a try. Amazon said it sold more ebooks than old-fashioned books on Christmas Day.
