Tools for schools
Tools for Schools is getting ready for class. The program, organized by Women’s Outreach Society, collects school supplies for children whose families can’t afford to buy supplies. A variety of supplies are needed, including backpacks, scissors, geometry sets, coiled scribblers and more. Supplies can be donated at Bower Place Shopping Mall, Parkland Mall, any Red Deer Staples or Wal-Mart, and the outreach. Supplies will be collected from July through August. To make donations, or for families in need of supplies, call the outreach at 403-347-2480. The outreach, at 4808 51st Ave, is also accepting cash donations.
Lottery winner
A Sylvan Lake man will share his $250,000 Lotto winnings with his kids to ensure they receive a good education. Richard Paul Waywood was calm when told he had won the July 3 Extra draw by an excited clerk. He told Lotto officials he was just the type of guy who remained calm in a storm of any sort. Waywood bought a $5 Lotto 6/49 ticket including the Extra from the No Frills Gas Bar in Hewlett Park Landing in Sylvan Lake. He returned to the store a few days later and gave the ticket to the clerk to check. “All of a sudden I hear all the bells and whistles. I looked up to see $250,000 on the monitor screen. “I think the clerk was more excited than I was. “That’s what my life is all about,” Waywood said about sharing the money with his kids.
