The Red Deer Exelta Gymnastics Club, located in the Collicutt Centre, has turned out some outstanding athletes while also catering to recreational-level gymnasts and tumblers.

The club offers three programs of note — competitive, recreational and play school.

The play school program, for children three and four years of age, runs from the first week of September through to the end of June. The program embraces the concept of ‘learning through play’ for the education of pre-schoolers.

The recreational program features four categories for children ages two to three, four to five, six to eight and nine and over, and includes day camps on Remembrance Day and in December. It is within the recreational program, as a whole, that most of the Exelta athletes are introduced to gymnastics as a sport.

The Exelta’s competitive program has produced numerous champions at the national and provincial levels. The program offers competitive training in trampoline and tumbling and men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics.

The Exelta Cup is the club’s premier competition and is held annually in February. The competition, which this year was held over two weekends, features provincial and national level events.
