Jin Chen and Yi Bong Jiang plan to add some Asian food to the table.

The pair are preparing to open China House in the commercial subdivision south of 67th Street and west of 30th Avenue.

To be located in one of the bays beneath Kids & Company day care, the new restaurant will offer Cantonese- and Szechuan-style meals, as well as Pad Thai noodles, Singapore noodles, curry dishes even deep-fried chicken wings and barbecue ribs, said Chen.

“It’s a little bit of every style.”

Take-out is expected to be a big part of China House’s business, but it will also have seating for 30 to 35 diners, said Chen.

The restaurant will feature an open kitchen.

“The customer can see exactly what’s going on with their food,” said Chen.

She and Jiang want to start out small, with an eye to expansion once they get a feel for the market.

Jiang will be the chef, but Chen also has a background in the restaurant trade.

Her family operated a Chinese restaurant in Brantford, Ont., before she relocated to Alberta.

They hope to open in mid-January, with their hours thereafter to be 11 a.m to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
